The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully funded summer overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program provides opportunities for overseas experience. The program is open to educators and administrators with responsibilities for curriculum development in fields related to humanities, languages, and area studies. Topics and host countries of the seminars vary from year to year. All seminars are in non-Western European countries. Seminars are designed to provide a broad and introductory cultural orientation to a particular country or countries. The program is geared towards those educators with little or no experience in the host country(ies) who demonstrate the need to develop and enhance their curriculum through short-term study and travel abroad. The goal of the program is to help raise global awareness in the classroom and prepare students for global citizenship and study abroad. Teachers who receive an enrichment grant can conduct any learning activity in the US or abroad that enhances their international outlook and global experience. Through their experiences, they will be able to further internationalize their classroom and advance their role as global educators to positively impact student learning. This grant is designed to encourage and support faculty travel abroad, as well as the integration of this international experience into courses or curriculum. Longer exposure and formative experiences abroad are preferred, as is language training, although having a meaningful experience and sharing it with others are most important. We particularly encourage applications involving work, study, community service, or other collaborative efforts abroad, especially those centering on education and establishing international connections and exchanges. The Korea Society aims to further develop the teaching of Korea in K-12 schools across the U.S., thereby enhancing the overall curricula. The Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for participants to develop a critical and engaging eye into modern day Korea while maintaining proper perspective on the nation’s rich history. Educators, such as classroom instructors, textbook editors & writers, and curriculum specialists are invited to spend approximately twelve days in South Korea, participating in various lectures, excursions, and discussions, as well as independent research in order to gain an enriched understanding of both Korea’s past and present. The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow (GTF) program is a professional development opportunity made possible by a partnership between National Geographic Education and Lindblad Expeditions. The program is named in honor of Gilbert M. Grosvenor, Chairman Emeritus National Geographic Society and Education Foundation Board. This opportunity gives current K-12 classroom teachers and informal educators from the 50 U.S. states, Canada, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico the opportunity to extend Grosvenor’s legacy of excellence in geographic education.
