Integrating Global Learning into Out-of-School Time Programs: Heather Loewecke with the Center for Global Education at Asia Society will host a webinar on using a global learning framework in out-of-school time programs. Igniting Civil Discourse in Our Students: Facing History and Ourselves is offering a webinar with strategies for providing space for diverse viewpoints, establishing a safe space for sensitive topics, encouraging active listening, and fostering student reflection. Webinar Date: May 24, 2018.
Japanese Teaching Material Purchase Grant: This Japan Foundation program assists educational institutions in the U.S. with purchasing teaching materials for their Japanese-language courses by providing financial support. Deadline: September 15, 2018.
IGT After School Advantage Program: IGT's After School Advantage Program provides qualifying nonprofit community agencies and public schools with digital learning centers. Deadline: Applications accepted on a rolling basis.
Captain Planet Foundation Grants: The Captain Planet Foundation offers grants to promote the understanding of environmental issues through hands-on involvement. Deadlines vary.
Awesome Foundation Grants: The Awesome Foundation is a global community advancing the interest of awesome in the universe, $1,000 at a time. Each fully autonomous chapter supports awesome projects through micro-grants, usually given out monthly. Applications are ongoing.
Teaching for Global Competence: The Center for Global Education is offering a new series of self-paced, online courses that make the Center's preeminent educator training program on teaching for global competence accessible to anyone. Try the first course for free!

Participation OptionsThere are TWO ways to participate.
  1. Physical Art Exchange, via regular mail (the same as we have offered since 2009).

    Level 1 – Exchange original student art with multiple schools. Visit the schools via Google Earth.

    Level 2 – Same as Level 1, plus: Complete a follow-up VoiceThread conversation (in English) with one of the schools you exchange art with.

  2. Digital Art Exchange.

    Option 1: Digital Global Student Art Exhibit – Submit student art digitally. Receive a tailored ‘digital student art exhibit’ for display in your classroom/school. The 50-piece ‘exhibit’ will match your grade level(s) and feature your students’ art alongside art created by students from at least 15-20 different countries.

    Option 2: Interactive Digital Art Exchange – Submit student art digitally for sharing with a global partner class/school, then conduct an online VoiceThread conversation (in English) with your partner about each other’s art. Please see the chart below for details, or call (518) 618-0571 to discuss your options.
How to ParticipateStep 1: Choose a participation option and REGISTER HERE.
Step 2: Follow the specific participation guidelines that we will send you when you register (also available online here: physical art exchange participation guidelines, digital art exchange participation guidelines).
Step 3: Submit your students’ art to OneWorld Classrooms.
Step 4: Get and display student art from around the world and, if applicable, interact with your global partner.

Each institute is highly interactive and includes discussion, theory-building, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities. New York International Conference on Teaching Chinese: Jointly with the State University of New York College of Optometry and Nanjing University, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York will hold their 15th conference at the State University of New York College of Optometry in Manhattan. The theme of the conference is "Teaching Chinese as a World Language: Research, Practice, and Innovation." The conference welcomes teachers, practitioners, and administrators in the field to attend and present. Conference date: May 6, 2017.

The Certificate Program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL): Columbia University's Teachers College is accepting applications for the 2017–18 academic year. The TCSOL certificate program is a one-year program, providing the state-of-the-art training in Chinese pedagogy and educational linguistics. The program offers a cutting-edge curriculum that sets trainees on a fast and efficient track to gain knowledge and skills necessary for operating effectively in current and future classrooms in various contexts. The program spans 12 weekends over one academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and is ideal for both pre-service teachers and in-service teachers who look to develop or enhance their ability to teach through an accelerated program. Application deadline: July 31, 2017.

Chinese Teacher Training Program: Sponsored by Hanban, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York is offering its popular teacher training summer program at Nanjing University for the 14th year in a row. Courses include Modern Chinese, Classical Chinese Literature, Chinese Characters and Calligraphy, and Seminar on Advanced Chinese. Upon the successful completion of the program, participants will receive graduate-level credits from Nanjing University which can be used to fulfill the subject credit requirement for teacher certification by U.S. education authorities. Program dates: July 10–August 8, 2017.

We're taking a new approach to promote Mandarin studies in U.S. K–12 schools. 

​Until May 31, 2017, students of Chinese can submit videos via social media telling us why they're passionate about studying Mandarin, and why their friends should be too. The video they post could even send them to China!

At the end of the contest, videos with the most likes are eligible for the grand prize, 2 round-trip tickets to China, so the winner can take a friend or family member with them, show them around, and show off their Mandarin skills.

Eligibility Requirements
